Why do I even feel uncomfortable right now?
Could it be that you are/feel inconsistent, incongruent, perhaps internal conflict?
No, not me…
Until you start noticing you have been saying one or some or all of these a little more than usual
• "I feel a bit off, but I can't quite put my finger on it." / “I'm not sure why, but I feel a bit unsettled.
• "There's something bothering me, but I can't figure out what."
• "Part of me wants one thing, but another part wants something different."
And what may be revealed underneath is…
“I feel like I’m living a lie”
“It’s like I’m at war with myself”
“I feel like I’m wearing a mask”
“I feel like I’m betraying myself”
In other words,
There’s discomfort or unease that arises from holding conflicting beliefs, attitudes, or values.
Sometimes it shows up in our behaviors like how I don’t like how I responded that way to someone or I don’t like that I’m drawn to this that’s not good for me.
Sometimes it doesn’t even feel like a choice.
Here’s the good news…
It often prompts us to seek resolution or change.
So discomfort is oftentimes good.
What?
Well obviously we don’t like discomfort.
What makes it good is what we do in response to discomfort.
If we change or choose what is good and healthy, that’s freedom.
Not enslaved to our old comforts that serve more as a distraction or numbing or just what we're "used to".
The point is not to stay in discomfort, which we sometimes find ourselves sitting there... a little too long.
Sometimes we stay longer in discomfort than we had to and sometimes we just want to escape to our old comforts and fail to reach what we’re actually looking for and actually growing into.
We can’t change the inevitable, but we can delay it.
We just need to learn what to lean into and what to learn from it.
